Meet our Interns – Flo, Jared and Dong

By Katie Dean

Delivery Hero offers internship opportunities across the company, they’re a great way to learn new skills and understand more about the different areas of the business. To give you a better insight into the role in the brand team, we spoke to our current interns to find out more and to provide some hints and tips for future interns.

If you want to intern in the central brand team, check out the current roles available here.

Florian Gold, Branding Intern

Tell us a little about yourself, what were you doing before interning at Delivery Hero?

I’m originally from the countryside of Southern Germany and I’ve been working in the Brand Team in Berlin since January. A couple of months before starting at DH, I completed my Bachelor of Socioeconomics in Hamburg and was working in the Marketing department of an international business law firm.

For the time period between graduating and a possible Master’s programme, my goal was to gather as much practical experience as possible, work or live in an international environment, improve my English proficiency and challenge myself on new tasks and impactful projects.

What was it that attracted you to Delivery Hero?

Since I really enjoy studying and working on projects related to branding and consumer behaviour, and I wanted to get to know a new city and because I am also a serious foodie, I applied for the internship at Delivery Hero.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really love working on projects with brands and teams all over the world.

On one day, I am taking part in a virtual workshop with the far-away team in Japan, another day I research impactful campaigns of brands in the Middle East and yet another time, I analyse Skandinavian TV spots, trying to understand what resonates well with the audience.

What’s been your favourite and most interesting project so far?

It was really cool to work on a project focusing on Donuts, where I deep-dived on the most favourite and unique donuts around the world and then picked different flavours representing different days of the week, while giving each Donut in the menu its individual name. #comfortapple

What’s surprised you most about Delivery Hero?

I was surprised to see how big the company actually was, as everything began with just a small start-up in Berlin not so long ago. That said, I was amazed when I had the first team meeting with over 50 people and yet, everyone was super cool and I felt well integrated into the team right away. And this was even though everything was held digitally and for the first two months I hadn’t met a single colleague from my team in person!

What tips would you give to others looking to do internship roles?

For me this internship is an incredible opportunity to learn and grow personally and professionally. But I would also say that in the beginning, things can be a bit overwhelming. Many new people, new tasks, a lot of information, especially when you are not used to working full time, like me, this might be a demanding phase.

Personally, it helped me a lot to know that I could always talk to my manager and that I can rely on my team when I felt like I needed assistance.

So my advice is to take everything easy, don’t hesitate to ask questions and don’t worry about making mistakes – and before you even notice you are straight on the way to becoming a hero!

Jared Carl, Campaigns Intern

Tell us a little about yourself, what were you doing before interning at Delivery Hero?

I’m originally from the Philippines. I moved to Berlin nearly four years ago to pursue my second Bachelor’s degree (and to be with a boy I liked!). I’m currently majoring in American Literature at Freie Universität Berlin and in the process of finishing my studies. I’ve always aspired to tell meaningful stories in my work, whether written or visual, because I believe in the transformative power of narrative.

What was it that attracted you to Delivery Hero?

I’ve always wanted to explore the marketing side of my career that I haven’t quite utilized. (I have a degree in business, but after college I went straight to publishing, in which I have more than ten years of experience). Delivery Hero seemed to me the perfect place to cultivate that side of my professional life. Doing the case study for the campaigns team during the application process proved that I came to the right place.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the flexibility that my role as an intern affords me. I get to collaborate with so many people with different backgrounds from different teams.

What’s been your favourite and most interesting project so far?

I’m currently working on a 360 campaign generator, a dynamic catalog/library of campaigns past and present that is meant to replace conventional decks. It’s my favorite project so far simply because I’m in charge of getting it off the ground, and its success hinges largely on my efforts.

What’s surprised you most about Delivery Hero?

That everyone has been so welcoming and helpful was a pleasant surprise. Not that I expected something contrary; it’s just amazing to actually witness people being very kind.

What tips would you give to others looking to do internship roles?

Keep an open mind. Learn from your colleagues. Drink lots of coffee.

Dong Jünemann, Motion Intern

Tell us a little about yourself, what were you doing before interning at Delivery Hero?

I have extensive experience in Graphic Design and Video Editing, having worked in the field for the past 9 years. Over time, working in those fields has strengthened my resolve and desire to deepen my knowledge of Motion Design and to learn more about it. I’m looking to gain more experience and dive deeper into the Motion Design industry.

What was it that attracted you to Delivery Hero?

I thrive in an environment filled with passionate, ambitious people; that’s why I love being a part of DH.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m learning so much everyday from the projects I’m working on my team is the perfect team, they care and are really supportive.

What’s been your favourite and most interesting project so far?

Recently I worked on a TVC for our Nordics brand, foodora. I’ve learnt a lot from the project, not only in design but also in animation and I’m looking forward to it being on TV in Norway!

What’s surprised you most about Delivery Hero?

Everyone in DH is so nice and very supportive and it’s a world wide workplace with a very streamlined management process. There’s a flat hierarchy and you can always voice your ideas and be heard.

What tips would you give to others looking to do internship roles?

It’s a change to work with smart and motivated people because you can thrive off the energy of others around you, you’ll naturally work harder and enjoy what you’re doing.

As you navigate what you’re looking to do professionally, it’s important to have mentors that you can rely on who will help you navigate the work environment you choose. You will learn from people who have been working in the industry with an expert-level understanding.
